University of Baghdad Strengthens Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals through Collaboration with the French University of Lille. We’re delighted to share that a delegation from the University of Baghdad, led by our President, Professor Dr. Moneer Hameed Al-Saadi, recently embarked on a meaningful visit to the prestigious French University of Lille as part of our commitment to fostering international collaborations. During this visit, our delegation engaged in fruitful discussions with counterparts at the University of Lille, emphasizing the importance of aligning our efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We highlighted the achievements of the University of Baghdad, showcasing our strategic plans with a keen focus on our international standing and contributions to the SDGs. Key areas of collaboration were explored, particularly in the fields of environment, health, energy, and computer engineering, which directly contribute to several SDGs. The delegation underscored the significance of building sustainable partnerships, with a specific emphasis on supporting graduate and undergraduate students. Initiatives such as the visiting professor program, increased research grants for Iraqi students, and participation in virtual scientific discussions and training courses were highlighted as avenues to enhance educational and research opportunities. The visit also included discussions on leveraging technology for academic exchange, with a proposal to establish an electronic platform presented by our College of Engineering professors. This platform aims to facilitate seamless interaction and scientific exchange between students and researchers at both universities. As part of our commitment to actionable collaboration, the idea of signing a memorandum of understanding was discussed. This agreement would not only solidify our joint international cooperation but also define a comprehensive framework for future collaborations, aligning with the overarching SDGs. The University of Lille’s rich offerings in advanced laboratories and innovation centers further complement our shared commitment to sustainable development. Together, our universities can play a pivotal role in addressing global challenges and advancing the SDGs.
