The Educational Unit for Peace and Human Rights Studies at the College of Education Ibn Rushd for Humanities, University of Baghdad, launched the 2026–2027 academic year with a scientific research program aimed at promoting a culture of peace and human rights, strengthening the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and rejecting hatred and violence within the university environment. The program was launched in accordance with the directives of Prof. Dr. Alawi Sader Jazaa, Dean of the College.
Dr. Ghada Ali Hadi, Director of the Unit, emphasized that the Unit will expand its academic and educational activities during the new academic year by organizing a range of cultural and scientific activities that contribute to raising awareness of the concepts of peace, dialogue, and acceptance of others.
She also noted that the Unit places particular emphasis on communication and cooperation with research centers, specialized units, and similar scientific and academic institutions, as building bridges of cooperation with these entities represents one of the Unit’s key areas of activity.
For his part, Lecturer Dr. Omar Saadi Al-Mousawi, a faculty member and researcher at the Unit, explained that the beginning of the new academic year represents an opportunity to introduce a new vision for the Unit’s work, based on integrating scientific research, educational activities, and student engagement.
He added that one of the Unit’s main priorities is to create spaces for dialogue and interaction and to discuss issues related to a culture of peace, tolerance, and coexistence. The Unit also seeks to raise awareness of the dangers of hate speech, intolerance, and discrimination, while enhancing students’ ability to engage positively with differences and diversity through dialogue and mutual respect.
