The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Baghdad held a discussion of a master’s thesis entitled “An Analytical Study of Secondary School Teachers’ Perceptions of the Role of Curricula in Promoting the Values of Tolerance, Cultural Diversity, and Social Solidarity.” The thesis was presented by Zainab Muzaffar Hassan, a researcher in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, specializing in Curriculum and Methods of Teaching.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Dawood Abdulsalam Sabri, with Prof. Dr. Zainab Hamza Raji serving as a member and supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Saba Hamid Hussein as a member. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Dawood Salman from the College of Basic Education at the University of Diyala also served as an external member.
The study aimed to assess secondary school teachers’ perceptions of the role of curricula in promoting the values of tolerance, cultural diversity, and social solidarity.
The study reached several findings, most notably that secondary school curricula contribute to promoting the values of tolerance, cultural diversity, and social solidarity among students to a moderate degree overall. Accordingly, the researcher recommended that the Ministry of Education strengthen the inclusion of the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence more explicitly in school curricula.
