The University of Baghdad has achieved a new academic and environmental accomplishment, ranking 215th globally out of 2,016 universities participating in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. This achievement reflects the University’s continued progress and growing presence in international rankings concerned with sustainability and environmental protection.
The 2026 edition of the ranking witnessed the participation of 2,016 universities from around the world, compared with 1,745 universities in the previous year, representing an increase of 271 universities. This growth highlights the increasing global competition and the growing interest among universities in implementing sustainability standards across their campuses.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is based on a range of indicators that assess universities’ commitment to sustainable practices. These indicators cover infrastructure and campus setting, energy and climate change, waste and water management, transportation, as well as education and research related to environmental and sustainability issues.
This achievement crowns the University of Baghdad’s ongoing efforts to promote the principles of sustainable development, develop a green university environment, and strengthen sound environmental practices across its academic and administrative institutions. These efforts contribute to enhancing the University’s academic standing and aligning its practices with internationally recognized standards in university sustainability.
