The Department of Kurdish Language at the College of Education / Ibn Rushd for Human Sciences, University of Baghdad, held a scientific seminar entitled “The Negative Effects of Drugs on Students.” The seminar was delivered by representatives of the National Security Service / University Security Directorate, Prof. Dr. Hassan Ali, Prof. Dr. Nadira Jamil, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hind Subaih, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Azhar Alwan Kashash, and was attended by a number of department students.

The seminar aimed to raise students’ awareness of the dangers of drugs to individuals and society, introduce them to the different types of these toxins in order to avoid them, and explain the steps of treatment and recovery. The seminar was divided into several themes: the first focused on identifying types of drugs, the second discussed their negative effects on students and society, while the final theme addressed methods of prevention and treatment.

The speakers explained the harmful effects of drugs and their negative impact on students in particular and on individuals in general, as they may lead to negative and socially unacceptable behaviors, and in extreme cases to serious crimes due to loss of mental control and psychological imbalance, in addition to the spread of psychological and mental illnesses caused by these deadly substances.

The seminar also clarified the forms and types of drugs, their dangers to human health, and how to recognize them, enabling individuals to avoid them. It highlighted how some drug dealers exploit the names of certain medical drugs to promote their toxic products under scientific-sounding labels.
