The College of Education Ibn Rushd for Humanities – University of Baghdad , held a discussion of a master’s thesis entitled “Geographic Analysis of Traffic Accidents on the Baiji–Haditha Road.” The thesis was submitted by Salah Mahdi Qassab, a researcher in the Department of Geography specializing in Human Geography.

The examining committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Jamal Hamid Rashid, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdul-Sattar Aboud Kadhim serving as both a committee member and the thesis supervisor, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Inaam Salem Naji as a committee member. The committee also included an external examiner, Prof. Dr. Hisham Salah Mohsen from the College of Education at Al-Mustansiriya University.

The study aimed to conduct a comprehensive spatial and temporal analysis of traffic accidents along the road connecting the districts of Baiji and Haditha. It sought to identify the geographical patterns influencing accident distribution and locate high-risk areas known as black spots.

The study concluded that curves and road undulations along the sections within Haditha require rehabilitation due to the high incidence of rollover accidents. Accordingly, the researcher recommended upgrading the road to a dual carriageway, with separate lanes for traffic traveling in opposite directions, to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents.
