Under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Alaawi Sader Jazaa, and with the follow-up of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Abdulwahid Jayyas, the Guidance and Counseling Unit at the College of Education Ibn Rushd for Humanities, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the National Security Service / Directorate of University Security, organized a scientific seminar entitled “Drugs and Their Negative Effects on Society.” The seminar was delivered by the Head of the College’s Guidance and Counseling Unit, Prof. Dr. Nadira Jameel Hamad, along with a number of officers from the National Security Service.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students and staff about the negative effects of drugs and the legal penalties associated with them. It addressed several topics, most notably the concept of drugs, their negative effects, and ways to prevent drug abuse. The seminar also discussed the procedures applicable to individuals who report themselves as drug users, as well as highlighting the key telephone numbers that should be contacted for assistance and reporting.

The seminar concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably the need to encourage universities and research centers to conduct field studies addressing the psychological and social factors associated with attitudes toward drug use. It also emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of psychological counseling in the early identification of risk factors and supporting adolescents and young people in coping with social and psychological pressures that may increase their vulnerability to drug use.
