The College of Education Ibn Rushd for Humanities at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The Effect of the Cognitive Growth Ladder Strategy on the Achievement of Second-Year Intermediate Students in Social Studies and the Development of Their Inferential Thinking.” The thesis was submitted by Hisham Salem Manati, a researcher in the Department of Geography, specializing in Methods of Teaching Geography.
The thesis defense committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Thanaa Yahya Qasim, with Prof. Dr. Laith Hamoudi Ibrahim as a member and supervisor, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Shajan Raad Nihad as a member. Assistant Prof. Dr. Yas Khudair Ahmed from the College of Basic Education, Al-Mustansiriyah University, also joined the committee as an external member.
The study aimed to identify the effect of the Cognitive Growth Ladder Strategy on the achievement of second-year intermediate students in Social Studies and the development of their inferential thinking.
The study reached several findings, most notably that applying the Cognitive Growth Ladder Strategy creates a positive and interactive learning environment and stimulates students’ enthusiasm for the lesson. Presenting instructional materials according to the strategy also helps students connect information stored in their cognitive structures with new information.
