The Human Rights Unit, in collaboration with the Department of History and the Continuing Education Unit at Ibn Rushd College of Education for Humanities, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “The Role of Human Rights in Eradicating Poverty in Iraq”. The workshop was presented by Dr. Mohammad Abdulwahid Jiyas, Dr. Sulaf Faidallah, and Dr. Khalid Jamal Karim, and attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students of the College.

The workshop aimed to clarify the first goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely the eradication of poverty and hunger, while highlighting the relationship between respecting human rights and achieving social justice and sustainable development. It also addressed the challenges faced by the state and society in efforts to reduce poverty.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the presenters put forward a set of recommendations emphasizing the need to strengthen national legislation and policies supporting the poor and to promote a culture of human rights within society.
