The College of Education for Human Sciences (Ibn Rushd), University of Baghdad, held the defense of a master’s thesis entitled “The Impact of the Visual Thinking Strategy on Reading Comprehension and the Development of Analytical Thinking among Fifth-Grade Preparatory Students in Kurdish Reading and Literature.” The thesis was presented by Muhannad Ahmed Nawfal from the Department of Kurdish Language, specializing in Methods of Teaching the Kurdish Language.
The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Mahabad Abdulkarim Ahmed and included Professor Dr. Payman Jalal Ahmed as supervisor and committee member, Assistant Professor Dr. Sabah Jalil Khalil as committee member, and Assistant Professor Dr. Rizkar Hama Law Khalid from the College of Basic Education, University of Sulaymaniyah, as the external examiner.
The study aimed to investigate the impact of the visual thinking strategy on reading comprehension and the development of analytical thinking among fifth-grade preparatory students studying Kurdish Reading and Literature.
The findings revealed that the use of the visual thinking strategy significantly enhanced students’ ability to retain and comprehend texts. Accordingly, the researcher recommended that the relevant authorities provide a supplementary reading book for the fifth-grade preparatory Kurdish Reading and Literature curriculum containing image-supported texts, similar to those incorporated into foreign language curricula such as English.
