The College of Education Ibn Rushd for Human Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis titled “Empowerment and Resilience: A Postcolonial Study of Selected Poems by Myung Mi Kim” by the researcher Hawraa Hussein Abdul Karim from the Department of English, specializing in literature. The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Azhar Nouri Fajr, with membership and supervision by Prof. Dr. Saad Najm Abdul Khafaji, membership by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amir Jassib Fareeh, and the external member Asst. Prof. Dr. Amjad Latif Jabbar from the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Diyala.

The study aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by South Koreans during the Korean War and the subsequent migration to the United States. It examined how Kim gives voice to the marginalized, revealing their resilience and empowerment in the face of oppression, erasure, and forced assimilation. Through cultural memory and communal unity, Kim provides tools for empowering the marginalized South Korean population, also highlighting her later works.
