About Department
A Historical Overview of the Department of Educational and Psychological The department was established in 1923, and it accepts graduates of preparatory schools of both scientific and literary branches, in addition to accepting academically certified teachers. The student graduating from this department is granted a Bachelor’s degree in educational and psychological sciences. In 1958, the University of Baghdad was established, and the College of Education was established in place of the High Teachers’ House, and it was annexed to the University of Baghdad. The college consisted of the following departments: Education, Psychology, Arabic Language, English Language, Geography, History, Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In the academic year 1964-1965, postgraduate studies (Master’s) were created in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, making it the first degree granted in this college at the postgraduate level. In the academic year 1976-1977, a postgraduate (doctoral) program was created in the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, in addition to master’s studies and preliminary bachelor’s studies. Thus, it is the first department to grant a doctorate in the College of Education/Ibn Rushd. The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences is responsible for implementing professional courses, including its allocated specialized teachers and instructions on the number of study hours and the titles of professional courses in other departments that prepare teachers in various subjects, such as preparing teachers of history, geography, the Arabic language, the English language, the Kurdish language, Qur’anic sciences, and others, and it supervises the identification of teachers in various subjects. The proportion of vocational curriculum subjects out of the general preparation curriculum and the type of courses are determined by a ministerial committee called the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Education in Iraq, which issues the main instructions regarding the courses and what is allocated to each stage in them. The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences is one of the important departments that contributes to the process of preparing and developing human resources and works to achieve important aspects of the comprehensive goal and general goals of the educational system, the goals of higher education, and the goals of colleges of education in light of the central philosophy of the state. The student who graduates in this department is awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Psychology. The department also has postgraduate studies. Postgraduate studies consist of three main groups and are divided into sub-specializations, which are as follows. 1. The psychological group consists of: A-Measurement and evaluation B-Educational psychology C-Developmental psychology D-Psychological counseling and educational guidance 2. The educational group consists of: . General curricula and teaching methods - Educational administration 3. Higher diploma equivalent to a master's degree (psychological operations). Department message:
It is an integrated scientific system of ancient psychological and educational specializations for primary and postgraduate studies, consisting of four psychological specializations and three educational specializations. It aims to build human beings and develop society in light of the requirements of sustainable development by creating generations capable of building the nation. Its relentless pursuit is manifested in learning, education, scientific research, and community service, through creating an educational environment that stimulates the capabilities of students, preparing qualified teachers and curricula that facilitate dealing with the labor market and modern information technology and is committed to preparing self-reliant graduates in the learning process. It is interested in enlightening minds and discovering creative people, and is open to the problems of the local community to find scientific solutions to them. It also emphasizes the integration of theoretical and applied knowledge. And strive diligently to obtain academic accreditation.
Aims of the Department:
1. Creating academic specializations and academic programs according to the needs of the labor market. 2. Developing curricula following academic accreditation standards. 3. Contemporary teaching methods enhance the learning process. 4. Activating scientific research and marketing research towards publication in reputable international journals. 5. Developing the reality of graduate studies and linking them to societal problems. 6. Building students’ capabilities and developing their skills to compete in the global market. 7. Ensuring quality and university performance following international standards. 9. Obtaining academic accreditation for primary and postgraduate study programs. 9. Adopting global competitive standards and achieving an advanced classification. 10. Developing human resources and administrative leaders and providing them with knowledge and skills. 11. Cooperation and international relations with corresponding departments and research centers. 14. Promoting integrated education to keep pace with scientific developments in all specializations.
Under_graduate Study
First: The Epistemological Objective which include the following:- 1. Preparing students scientifically, professionally, and culturally to enable them to understand and analyze the concepts and theories of education and absorbing the basic principles of education that qualify them for teaching, scientific research, psychological and educational guidance in the institutions of the Ministry of Education and other social, psychological, and educational institutions. 2. Enabling students to follow and apply scientific methods in dealing with life and professional problems. We also aim to improve students’ analytical capability to analyze and solve these problems according to scientific criteria. 3. Enabling our graduate students to pursue their studies in post-graduate level and apply for master and Doctor of Philosophy programs at the department. Those students will participate in the scientific developments of the field of education and psychology and conducting scientific research in the future. 4. Enhancing scientific cooperation inside and outside educational between college of education and other social institutions. This cooperation can be implemented through organizing and holding symposia, seminars, linkages shared lectures and courses as well as and workshops in the field of continuing education related to educational and psychological sciences. Second: - Passionate Objectives which consist of:- 1. Assisting students in acquiring skills and values that derived from Arab and Islam principles as well as international norms and best practices. The main goal is to lead students to reach the highest levels of progress, intellectual and psychological maturity. 2. Developing students’ tendencies, needs, and desires so that they can improve their scientific capabilities which can help them in developing their teaching profession, scientific research, and educational and psychological guidance. This process will help them facing the contemporary moral, epistemological, and intellectual challenges as well as the problems of the times. 3. Develop and improve the ethical and values dimensions, especially in the teaching profession, scientific research, and psychological counseling, and prevent misuse of teachers’ responsibilities in the educational and psychological fields. Third: - The Psychological Dynamic (skills) which consist of:- 1. Enabling students to acquire basic skills related to teaching profession, scientific research, educational and psychological counseling, and work to develop and improve them to perform their work successfully to encounter the challenges with high efficiency while practicing their profession. 2. Instructing and developing students and other society member towards acquiring self-education skills, expanding their horizons, and developing their competencies to be able to reach and benefit from sources of knowledge and culture on their own.

Methodology and General Methods of Teaching 2. Principles of Education 3. Educational Administration Thirdly: - Method of Teaching group which consist of:- 1. Arabic Language Methodologies 2. English Language Methodologies 3. Geographical Methodologies 4. Historical Methodologies
