<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Ibn Rushd College of Education for Humanities at the University of Baghdad held a discussion of a master\u2019s thesis entitled \u201cEdmond Rizk: His Media Activity and Political Role in Lebanon up to 1992.\u201d The thesis was presented by Falah Jameel Falih, a researcher in the Department of History, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a master\u2019s degree in Modern and Contemporary History.<\/p>\n
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ali Mohammed Kareem, with Assistant Prof. Dr. Alaa Jaber Musa Al-Yaqoubi serving as a member and supervisor, and Lecturer Dr. Khalid Jamal Kareem as a member. Prof. Dr. Jabbar Darwish Jassim joined the committee as an external member from the College of Education at Al-Mustansiriyah University.<\/p>\n
The study aimed to shed light on Edmond Rizk\u2019s political, legislative, and intellectual career and examine the impact of his positions and political transformations on key developments in modern Lebanese history. It also analyzed his roles in parliamentary and ministerial affairs, as well as his pivotal contribution to drafting the National Reconciliation Document (Taif Agreement).<\/p>\n
The study reached several conclusions, most notably that Rizk\u2019s reformist vision was deeply rooted from his early work in journalism and law, which was clearly reflected in his parliamentary performance. It also highlighted his significant contribution to drafting the National Reconciliation Document and reinforcing constitutional reforms and judicial independence. In addition, the study demonstrated the consistency of his opposition to Israeli occupation and aggression, as well as his critical stance toward militarization and partition. It further concluded that his decision to withdraw from political life was a principled protest against the electoral law and what he regarded as its infringement upon constitutional and national principles.<\/p>\n
