The College of Education Ibn Rushd for Humanities at the University of Baghdad held the defense of a master’s thesis entitled “The Development of Children’s Understanding of the Justifications for Breaking Promises,” presented by Maha Sabah Rashid from the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, specializing in Developmental Psychology.<\/p>\n
The examination committee was chaired by Prof. Intisar Hashim and included Prof. Ghada Ali as supervisor, Assist. Prof. Munaf Fathi as a committee member, and Prof. Fouad Ali Farhan from the College of Education for Humanities at the Iraqi University as the external examiner.<\/p>\n
The study aimed to investigate how children’s understanding of the justifications for breaking promises develops, as this issue represents a central aspect of moral development. It examined how this understanding reflects children’s cognitive growth, reasoning abilities, and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n
The findings revealed that children aged 7\u20138 years are capable of understanding the justifications for breaking promises, whereas children aged 5\u20136 years generally adhere to and fulfill promises without distinguishing such justifications.<\/p>\n
